Lake Monduran

Lake Monduran is a rural locality in the Bundaberg RegionQueensland, AustraliThe locality contains the lake of the same name, created by the Fred Haigh Dam (24.8706°S 151.8503°E), and the immediately surrounding foreshores of the lake and the dam. The Fred Haigh Dam was constructed across the Kolan River in 1978 creating Lake Monduran (24.8166°S 151.8166°E). The lake was officially named on 1 January 1980

The lake is popular for fishing as it is stocked with Australian bassbarramundigolden perchsaratogasilver perch and sooty grunter, but a Stocked Impoundment Permit must be obtained. The lake is popular for boating with a boat ramp at Fred Haig Dam (24.8741°S 151.8451°E), which is managed by the Bundaberg Regional Council. There is a lookout at the park at the dam wall on Monduran Dam Road (24.8744°S 151.8524°E).  Adjacent is the privately-operated Lake Monduran Holiday Park with cabins and facilities for caravans and camping

I camped down next to the facilities, which were excellent. There were hot showers and toilets and a well equipped camp kitchen with a TV and free WIFI. One side had the powered sites, $25, and below were the unpowered sites which were $10 a night. There was a small shop at the Office for basics and you could walk across the dam wall and also up to a lookout. The area is rich with native wild life and birds, and campers with boats were catching huge fish in the dam. Lake Monduran is stocked by the Monduran Anglers and Stocking Association Inc. The dam is stocked with barramundi and Australian bass. In 2017/18, 83,000 barramundi were stocked from SIPS permit sales. It is a very beautiful spot and very peaceful and relaxing and the staff at the Office were friendly and helpful. It was pouring with rain when I was there, I camped sheltered by trees next to the facilities. The short drive through the bush is very easy and beautiful.
