Prior to 1932 Laurel Bank Park, as it is now known, was owned by Mr Samuel George Stephens. In 1932 Mr Stephens donated the land to the people of Toowoomba, making the Toowoomba City Council the park’s official custodian.

The gardens were designed by Mr Stephens himself before he handed them over. The gates at the entrance of the park were officially handed over on 20 June, 1934.

Its Flower time at Toowoomba and we traveled by ferry and Bus from Russell Island to visit the Annual Flower Show at Toowoomba. Here various venues enter their gardens and during the Show time, people travel to the different winning entries to view the gardens. We went to Laurel Park Gardens first.

The spectacular domed walk through of flowering wisteria was beautiful…An unforgettable sight in spring is the park’s Wisteria Walk. Specially designed trellises support a profusion of blossom framed by the vines’ springtime greenery, providing a shaded bower where visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll beneath a fragrant canopy of vivid colour.

The Tulip display was truly spectacular. A flowering display of tulips in different  colors and shapes….An unforgettable sight in spring is the park’s Wisteria Walk. Specially designed trellises support a profusion of blossom framed by the vines’ springtime greenery, providing a shaded bower where visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll beneath a fragrant canopy of vivid colour.

The roses were not in bloom…
For those who appreciate the art of growing blooms from bulbs, a visit to the Bulb Garden in spring is a true pleasure as established favourites and newer selections provide a memorable spectacle of colour.
